The Centre for Teaching and Learning is committed to supporting teaching excellence at MacEwan, and we would like to invite faculty to apply for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Fund to support their inquiry into teaching and learning.

Instructors who adopt a scholarly approach to their teaching and their planned initiatives, with a commitment to sharing their findings and their understanding of teaching and learning, are encouraged to submit their proposal.

SoTL is interdisciplinary, so this fund supports a range of methodological approaches and sample sizes.

Eligible projects for this fund include inquiry in the following areas:

  • Describing teaching practices and initiatives
  • Comparing practices and initiatives
  • Teaching interventions
  • Course design and redesign
  • Student learning activities
  • Student assessment

We prioritize projects that include student involvement and that include Open Access dissemination. Projects must align with the MacEwan Strategic Vision.

Funds can be used to support the following:

  • Equipment, materials and supplies
  • Technology purchases or licensing
  • Contracted assistance (for example: research assistance, editing services)
  • Research and consultation costs
  • Dissemination costs (for example: travel costs, conference fees, publication costs)

Expenses must be clearly aligned with the research process. Examples of ineligible expenses include:

  • Costs typically budgeted for by MacEwan University
  • Costs that are related to student course fees (like student costs with field trips, tuition reimbursement, etc.)
  • Personal electronic devices, including but not limited to laptops, tablets, mobile devices and AR/VR equipment
