Whether it’s your first time setting foot on campus or you’re heading into your final semester, there’s something happening on campus to start your Fall term off right.

Check out live music, get to know our downtown neighbours and learn how to get the most out of your education – all for free!

If you’re new to MacEwan, attending New Student Orientation on September 5 will not only help you to learn more about your program, but it’s also a great opportunity to meet fellow classmates and get to know MacEwan’s campus. Attend workshops, enter prize draws and more! If you still have questions, check out some of our student primer articles to help you navigate your first few weeks of student life.

Now that you’re an expert on all things MacEwan, you’re ready for the first day of classes on September 6.

In order to submit work for those classes and access helpful resources, you’ll need to get acquainted with our online learning environment, paskwâwi-mostos mêskanâs (mêskanâs for short). Check out a Student Skill Session on September 7 to learn how to use mêskanâs, and to get some tips to help you excel in online learning.

September 8 is chock full of fun as we kick off the school year. Meet our campus neighbours at the Downtown Campus Block Party. This event features DJs, dancers, axe throwing, mural painting, free food and more. Mingle with fellow students, staff and faculty, as well as peers from NorQuest College, Women Building Futures and the Downtown Business Association.

When you’re finished there, check out SAMU’s Fall Fest on the front lawn outside Building 6, featuring live music, beer gardens and food trucks. Note that while entrance is free, food and beverages at the event are not.

Now that you’ve properly celebrated the first few days of classes and you’re settled in at MacEwan, it might be time to look at more distant horizons. Education Abroad is hosting in-person information sessions on September 11, 13, 19, 22 and 25, as well as a virtual session on September 28.

If you’re an international student who has already journeyed across borders, ensure you have everything you need for your MacEwan education by attending a number of webinars this month. On September 8, learn about co-op work permits for placements and practicums, and find out what work options you have with a study permit on September 14. If you have partners or family members who want to come visit or stay while you’re studying in Edmonton, you can find out what immigration information they’ll need on September 26.

You don’t have to leave the country to learn about international issues, though. On September 12, visiting scholar and journalism professor Dr. Gayana Yüksel from Volodymyr Vernadsky Taurida National University in Kyiv is speaking on the Russo-Ukrainian War from the perspective of Indigenous Crimean Tatars.

Although the semester is fresh and finances might seem like a faraway issue, it’s never too soon to start looking at ways to offset the costs of being a student. Attend drop-in sessions and learn about scholarships, awards and bursaries on September 12, 14, 18 and 20.

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Though there are no regular classes that day, campus will remain open. Learn more about initiatives and events at MacEwan.ca/kw, and don’t forget to pick up this year’s Orange Shirt Day design at the MacEwan Bookstore.

September also has some important dates for your classes and programs. The last day to add or drop a class for the term is September 15. After that deadline, you’re still able to withdraw from a class, but you won’t receive any fee or tuition refunds (you can learn the difference between dropping and withdrawing here).

September 15 is also the last day to apply for Fall Convocation, for those who are preparing to graduate from their programs.

The month closes out with one final deadline: September 29 is the last day to pay your Fall 2023 tuition and fees. Learn about payment options here.

Be sure to check MacEwan.ca/Events throughout the month for more exciting events to attend!
