Estimate the costs you can expect in a single term. If you take fewer than nine credits in a fall or winter term, you will be charged the international tuition rate for nine credits. Other costs will be charged based on the number of credits you enrol in.
Most courses are worth three credits and most programs consider fifteen credits a full course load for one term. You must take a minimum of nine credits to be considered a full-time student.
An academic year has three terms: Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer. The cost estimate is for a single term.
International student status
If you require a study permit to study in Canada, are in Canada with other temporary resident status, or are a refugee/Protected Person claimant whose notice of decision is pending, you are deemed to be an international student when enrolled at the university and are subject to all policies and regulations applicable to international students. This includes the assessment of tuition and fees which are assessed at the international tuition rate.
If your immigration status changes after admission, you must notify the Office of the University Registrar (OUR) of the change and provide the necessary supporting documentation.
Immigration status and immigration status changesReporting tuition costs on your study permit application
When you apply for a study permit, you may need to include evidence of your upcoming tuition costs. Use the international cost estimator to calculate your tuition estimate for one term with fifteen credits. Print the page and include it with your study permit application.
When you indicate the tuition amount on your study permit application, multiply the estimate by two so that it covers both fall and winter terms.
Cost of living in Alberta
As well as tuition and fees, you need to plan for the day-to-day costs of a student living away from home, such as food, accommodation and socializing. Print the cost-of-living estimate and include it with your study permit application.
Per-credit billing in your final term
International student tuition for Fall and Winter terms is calculated on a minimum of nine credits. International students who enrol in fewer than nine credits are charged the international student tuition for nine credits. The only exception to this minimum-billing rule is for the very last term of studies if you need fewer than nine credits to complete your program.
This exception can only be granted once in a lifetime. You must apply for final term per-credit tuition billing before the add/drop deadline of your final term. Complete an application form at the MacEwan International office and submit a planning sheet or other document from your program that confirms you are in the final term of your program of study.
