SAFE AT MACEWAN
Fire
Fires can happen anywhere, at any time and have a devastating impact on the university community and physical resources. All alarms must be treated as real and building occupants must evacuate when the alarm sounds.
You can prepare for a fire emergency by knowing the location of primary and alternative exit routes, fire alarm pull-stations and fire extinguishers.
If you see fire
- Pull the fire alarm.
- Call 911 and campus security at 780-497-5555.
- Evacuate the building via the nearest floor exit, closing doors as you leave.
- Do not use elevator.
- Help people with disabilities. If you are unable to assist, report their location to campus security.
- Proceed to the nearest muster point. City Centre Campus
- Do not re-enter the building until you hear the all clear announcement.
If the fire is small, use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. Only use a fire extinguisher if you know how. Never put yourself or others at risk.
