Building a schedule that works, learning to study effectively, making use of librarians and the library, speaking to your profs during their office hours—these are the building blocks of academic excellence.
Balance your academic life with activities that benefit your physical, social and emotional well-being, and set yourself on a path to success. MacEwan University has the supports and services to help you along your path.
Your grades, Grade Point Average (GPA) and academic standing are important tools for measuring and monitoring your academic progress. Be sure to check them each term.
Your academic year
Your course outline (or syllabus) is distributed in the first class of each course. It is an official outline of what you can expect to learn in the course and what is expected of you. It includes deadlines for assignments and required readings. Refer to your course outline throughout the term.
Use the final exam planner to create an unofficial exam schedule. Then, confirm your final exam dates and location on myStudentSystem at the end of the first month of each term.
As the academic year progresses, don’t lose touch with academic advisors. Continue to check your @myMacEwan student Gmail account even if your classes use other online tools to communicate.
Minimum grade restrictions
The minimum passing grade for a course at MacEwan University is a D unless otherwise noted next to the appropriate course in the program of study in the Academic Calendar.
GPA and academic standing
Your academic standing is evaluated at the end of each term. You must maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 to be considered in Good Academic Standing. Students whose GPA falls below 2.0 may either be placed on Academic Probation or be Required to Withdraw.
