Certificate components

This online course provides you with foundational knowledge about sexual violence to allow you to engage critically with more in-depth topics. This course has four modules that you can complete in approximately two hours:

  1. Introduction to Sexual Violence
  2. Understanding Consent
  3. Bystander Intervention
  4. Supporting a Survivor of Sexual Violence

Led by student peer educators, this workshop helps you foster a sense of personal ownership about your role in creating a culture of consent and support on campus. You can deepen your knowledge about sexual violence, gain skills for navigating consent in everyday contexts and intimate relationships, and discuss strategies for supporting sexual violence survivors.

Bringing in the Bystander® is an in-person, evidence-based, educational program that encourages you to become a positive bystander in instances of sexual and interpersonal violence and harassment. In this workshop, you learn about bystander intervention and how to overcome your own barriers to intervention to become a more active, pro-social bystander. You also learn to identify a continuum of inappropriate sexual behaviours and participate in interactive activities to develop empathy for those who have experienced sexual violence.

Each semester, OSVPER curates a selection of workshops and keynote events that you can participate in as part of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Certificate of Recognition. These options empower you to build on their foundational knowledge and explore topics of personal interest such as alcohol and consent, supporting queer and trans survivors of sexual violence, and trauma-informed practice.
