What’s the saying? Technology is great – when it works. Chances are, if you’ve got technology, you’ve also got questions. Here, MacEwan University’s Technology Support staff share solutions to the IT problems that our students face most.
1. I can’t remember my password and I’m locked out of my MacEwan account. Help!
You’ve got this! If you’re locked out of your MacEwan account or need to reset your password, give this self-service option a try.
2. Can I download Microsoft Office 365 for free?
Yes! If you need to access Word, PowerPoint, Excel or OneNote, log into portal.office.com using your MacEwan username and password to download Office 365 apps on your PC, Mac, tablet or even your smartphone.
3. How can I find the other apps I need?
All of the software applications available on the computers in the library and computer labs across campus are also available online. Log into myPortal and follow the instructions to use myApps. You’ll be able to access applications like Power BI, Sage 50 Accounting, QuickBooks and more directly in your web browser – you don’t even have to install them. And it works on a tablet or a Chromebook too.
4. My laptop died. Now what?
There are a limited number of common use computers (PCs and iMacs) available for students in the John L. Haar Library, the Robbins Health Learning Centre Computer Commons (on the third floor by the Kule Theatre) and Allard Hall Computer Commons (11-437).
Students, faculty and staff can also borrow laptops, chargers and cables (and so much more – iPhone headphone jack adapters, USB card readers, etc.) from the library – for free! See the full list of equipment and laptops available for short-term loans.
5. Still having trouble? Live chat with a tech
If you’re struggling to get set up with the apps and technology you need to learn online, MacEwan’s Tech Support techs are standing by to help every day of the week (check here for up-to-date virtual support hours). Reach out to them using live chat or email.
