Mother Nature may be telling us otherwise, but spring is officially here, and we’re embracing the end of the Winter term with a month full of events and activities – music, film, research and much more.

April is MacEwan’s Month of Scholarship – a time to learn about and celebrate research and creative work. We’re kicking things off on April 1 (no joke!) and 2 with prep workshops for the more than 300 students presenting posters, talks, installations, performances and project displays at Student Research Day on April 17 (the most participants ever!)

Speaking of emerging knowledge, plan to join Dr. James Canton on April 3 for the latest instalment of the Chancellor Speaker Series – a fascinating look at how AI will transform health care.

Month of Scholarship is also the perfect time to add Research Recast(ed) from the Office of Research Services and Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications (FFAC) to your podcast playlist.

While we’re on the subject of FFAC, make sure to pick up your tickets for the MacEwan Music Season.

Between April 2 and 6, music students are capping off the term with a series of concerts. Check out the Showcase Band and Country/Roots Ensemble, Big Band, Percussion Ensemble, Songwriters’ and Contemporary Combos concerts. Then, wrap up the Music Season on April 9 with the MacEwan Youth Jazz Orchestra concert, featuring Edmonton’s premiere high school jazz ensemble. Go to MacEwan.ca/MusicSeason for the complete list of concerts and to buy tickets.

April 4 is the last day of Winter 2025 classes (where has the time gone?) and the withdrawal deadline. Final exams start on April 7 and run through until April 15. Good luck, everyone!

If these are the last exams of your program, you will also want to apply for Spring Convocation by April 15.

While we’re talking about graduation, the Mitchell Art Gallery is hosting the opening of Still Move: Studio Arts 2025 BFA Grad Show on April 10 (the show runs through April 17). Stop by to take in the work of the first students majoring in Studio Arts to graduate from MacEwan’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program.

National Volunteer Week (April 14 to 20) is a great time to visit MacEwan.ca/Volunteer and sign up for a range of volunteer opportunities. You can get a head start by checking out MacEwan’s Urban Beekeeping Project’s volunteer info session on April 3. And see how you can make an impact at the Student Leadership Summit on April 16.

That was a lot – and we haven’t even covered it all! Stop by the West Village at 9:30 a.m. on April 2 to catch MacEwan Sustainability unveiling a new mural, then head to CHARM’s Harm Reduction Fair. The final two weekly gatherings of the Writing Community are on April 2 and 9, and the Design Portfolio Show is on April 24 at the Mitchell Art Gallery.

There’s still more! New events are being added to MacEwan.ca/Events all the time. Check it out for a complete listing of events happening at MacEwan this month (and beyond).
