For the final Chancellor Speaker Series hosted by Dr. Anthony Fields, MacEwan’s first chancellor, we’re excited to welcome Dr. James Canton to present How AI Will Transform Healthcare – an eye-opening look at how AI and digital technologies will revolutionize healthcare.

Dr. Canton has been recognized as a leading global futurist by The Economist and featured in Wired, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Report, The New York Times and on CNN.

“For my last event in the Chancellor Speaker Series, I’m delighted to host such an exciting speaker for a very timely conversation about how AI and digital technologies will affect healthcare. Dr. James Canton is a renowned expert in what trends are happening, and has a way of showing us how these cutting-edge technologies will affect our day-to-day lives,” says Dr. Fields.

At the public lecture on April 3, Dr. Canton will share how AI and digital technologies hold great potential for preventing disease and personalizing healthcare. This includes an overview of technological trends that will dramatically change healthcare delivery, what we need to know about using these new technologies and what we’re already seeing for the next generation of healthcare technology.

“AI will profoundly impact medicine as doctors learn to prevent disease through early diagnostics and big data,” says Dr. Canton. “We need trustworthy AI, that is both efficacious and scientifically sound, not just to heal but to understand the complexity of disease.”

As part of the Chancellor Speaker Series, Dr. Fields will also host Dr. Canton at two other events. At the Hack4Health student challenge on April 3, MacEwan students will have the opportunity to team up with other students, faculty, and community mentors to create impactful solutions for real-world health challenges. Dr. Canton will be part of the panel of judges to provide feedback and pick the winning team.

Dr. Fields will also invite faculty and community partners to a Thought Leader Dialogue where Dr. Canton will be joined by several local experts to discuss the ways AI and digital technologies are transforming the teaching and learning of healthcare here and around the world.
