MacEwan University is searching for our next chancellor, an inspiring person who will continue to elevate the institution into the future with the right combination of zeal for post-secondary education, along with a passion for the community at large.
Nominations will be accepted until February 28, 2025. The successful candidate will be appointed as MacEwan’s second chancellor in the spring, and formally installed into this pivotal role in July, 2025.
MacEwan’s inaugural chancellor, Dr. Tony Fields, completes his term in June, 2025.
"Chancellor Fields has exemplified excellence, curiosity, and kindness, leaving an inspiring legacy for others to follow," says Carolyn Graham, chair of the Board of Governors. "MacEwan's next chancellor will serve as a valued ambassador for the university, celebrating our achievements and helping to advance our strategic vision, Teaching Greatness. I am eager to see who will step forward for this distinguished role, as we carry out the process with the best interests of our students, faculty, and staff at heart."
The chancellor is a voluntary but important position as the ceremonial head of the university, while also acting as an advisor to the president and promoting MacEwan through community events. Dr. Fields was instrumental in kicking off the Chancellor’s Speaker Series that brought guest speakers to campus to spark dialogue and encourage excellence with scholars, students, faculty and staff.
The key responsibilities of the position include:
- Representing MacEwan University at ceremonial events and key community occasions
- Serving as an ex-officio member of the Board of Governors, contributing to the university’s governance
- Presiding over convocation ceremonies and conferring degrees, including honorary degrees
