Congratulations to the fall class of 2024! November 13 was a day of celebration for hundreds of graduates who earned the privilege of crossing the stage at the Winspear Centre and taking home their well-earned degrees, diplomas and certificates.
In our Meet the Class feature story, several of those grads share memories of MacEwan, the people who helped them reach their goals and their future ambitions. In addition to sharing her story with us, Samantha Dancey, recipient of the President’s Medal for Academic Excellence and Student Leadership, offered a heartfelt message to her fellow graduates. And an additional 10 grads were recognized for their hard work and dedication with Dean’s Medals for Academic Excellence.
Graduates weren’t the only people recognized for their achievements. Both David L. Mowat and James Angus Reid Watt (pictured below) received honorary doctorates and shared words of inspiration and wisdom with grads during both ceremonies. Dr. Kaitlyn Towle and Padraig Buttner-Schnirer were presented with Early Career Teaching Excellence Awards, and Dr. Mike Annett was recognized with a Teaching Leadership Award.
Convocation wouldn’t be complete without music. As always, each ceremony featured an Indigenous performance, and the MacEwan Big Band performed for graduates and their guests.
Our newest alumni were also welcomed into the community – now over 90,000 strong – with a print of Golden Hour (pictured below), an original artwork created by first-year Bachelor of Fine Arts – Studio Arts student Naomi Bly.
