Whether you’re looking to clear your brain or fill it with new and exciting things, we have loads of events on campus to choose from this November.

Need a boost as you recover from your Halloween candy sugar high? Head to Allard Hall to take in some Korean music and dance with the MacEwan Global Music Series • Hanbeat Samulnori Concert on November 1. If you arrive a little early, you can stop by the Mitchell Art Gallery to catch their current exhibition, GLAD YOU CLOSER HOME / NEW WHITE WHISKER MARY, which runs until December 7. (And if you’ve meant to stop by the Love in a Dangerous Time: Canada’s LGBT Purge Pop-Up in the Library, now’s the time. The exhibition wraps up on November 8.)

Campus is bound to be busy on November 2 as we throw open our doors and welcome thousands of potential future students at MacEwan’s annual Open House event. If you know someone making post-secondary plans in the next few years, encourage them to stop by and learn from the hundreds of students, faculty and staff on-site to welcome them!

The MacEwan Box Office is impressively stickhandling a busy season-opener for MacEwan’s Theatre Season with several sold-out shows of Glory, which tells the 1930s story of four friends who set out to prove to Canada that hockey isn’t just a sport for men. There are still tickets left for some shows – get yours before it ends on November 3. Then get ahead of the game and order your tickets for Heathers, a hilarious, heartfelt and homicidal new show from November 27 to December 1. Remember that students, faculty and staff get discounted tickets!

The week of November 5 is prime time for learning. Kick things off with a challenging – and important – conversation about what to do when a friend causes harm. The next day, the Office of Sexual Violence Prevention, Education and Response is hosting the first in its series of Lunch and Learn sessions on media literacy. Check out the complete list of sessions

If you’re looking for community, Wednesday is your day! For a friendly writing-focused conversation or just a cozy spot to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), stop by the Writing Centre between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. each Wednesday in November and join the Writing Community. Then, head over to the Mitchell Art Gallery in Allard Hall for Art Buffet – a free drop-in artmaking session for everyone that runs most Wednesdays from 12 to 4 p.m.

The Department of English welcomes Marilyn Dumont on November 6 as part of its Visiting Authors Series. The reading and Q&A session will focus on her fifth book of poetry, South Side of a Kinless River, which wrestles with concepts of Métis identity in a nation and territory that would rather erase it.

On November 13, we’ll celebrate the newest members of the class of 2024 at our Fall Convocation ceremonies. Later that day, Knowledge Keeper/Facilitator George Desjarlais will offer a unique opportunity to discover the deep connections between culture, nature and the cosmos with Star Teachings at the kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to dedicate the morning of November 14 to free safeTALK Suicide Alertness Training offered through the university’s Wellness and Psychological Services. The Coalition for Harm Reduction at MacEwan (CHARM) also offers Harm Reduction and Naloxone Training on November 18.

The Garneau String Quartet will perform Two ‘Wolfs’ Among Friends on the evening of November 18 at the Alberta College Campus.

And if you’re dreaming of expanding your horizons with a travel experience, check out the Education Abroad Information Session on November 21.

These are just some of the many events happening on campus. Check MacEwan.ca/Events throughout the month for more exciting things to do.
