Now that you’ve got your schedule figured out, it’s time to fill in the gaps! This month, MacEwan delivers a ton of options with music, theatre, art and activities related to Consent Action Week and Ukraine Week. Oh, and it’s Halloween at the end of the month. Will you be dressing up?
Music, art and theatre can be a nourishing break as you work toward midterms. Check out The Garneau String Quartet as they perform The Music of Talk on October 1.
Until October 10, check out Seeking Care: Imagining Alongside Youth Mental Health Stories, an exhibition in the west end of the Library that looks at the experiences of youth while waiting for mental health services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Following that exhibition, you’ll find Love in a Dangerous Time: Canada’s LGBT Purge Pop-Up Exhibition running until November 8 in the same space.
Right through unitl December, the Mitchell Art Gallery presents GLAD YOU CLOSER HOME / NEW WHITE WHISKER MARY – a playful, immersive exhibition of the archives and records from the lives of Mary Imrie (1918-1988) and Jean Wallbridge (1912-1979), two lovers who operated the first female-run architecture firm in Canada.
Even if you’ve just started your post-secondary journey, it’s never too soon to start thinking about the future. Check out the Graduate and Professional School Fair on October 1, and then get started building your network at the Fall Career Fair, which will be held in the gymnasium on October 9 – you can RSVP here.
Check out a panel presentation around emerging tech at The Digital Playground: Emerging Tech in Research event on October 9 in the Feigel Conference Centre. Industry guests Dr. Katrina Ingram from Ethically Aligned AI and Michael Guevarra from Illumialabs will be joined by MacEwan faculty.
Ukraine Week runs from October 1 to 7, with events that range from a talk about Understanding Ukrainian Academia During the War and Addressing Global Responses, to a book launch and a Jazz concert. A full list of all events can be found on the Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre webpage.
Consent Action Week takes place from October 7 to 11. Activities include a community art gallery, a fair in the Robbins Atrium, a panel discussion, an art buffet, drop-in self-care and wellness activities, and so much more. If you’re curious to know where we are and where we’re headed as a university, RSVP for the State of the University address and reception, which takes place on October 10.
Don’t come to class on Thanksgiving Monday – October 14. Campus will be closed, except for the library and the gym and pool, which will operate according to holiday hours.
The fall installment of the Chancellor Speakers Series features Dr. Craig Earle, CEO of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer. RSVP for the public lecture or take part in the Student Innovation Challenge. Both events happen on October 24.
The 2024/25 Theatre Season begins on October 30 with the thrilling hockey story Glory. Tickets are still available, but are selling quickly!
Halloween will be on school day this year, so come to class in your costumes! Just be sure to get photographic evidence and tag us!
