New students preparing to start their studies in January can attend Early Bird Orientation to beat those first-day jitters. Come explore campus on December 1 or 8 and head into your classes feeling confident and prepared.

If you already know your way around campus, make your way to Building 6 instead for an event with the Department of English. Jennifer Bowering Delisle will start the month off with readings from her new collection of lyric essays, MICROGRAPHIA, on December 1.

For those who managed to snag tickets to Legally Blonde: The Musical, the sold-out show wraps up its run on December 3.

We’ve had an unseasonably warm end to the fall season, but that luck won’t last forever. If you’re dreading the inevitable harsh cold, take a mental break from winter and check out the Education Abroad virtual session on December 4.

For a different international perspective, join the Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre (URDC) in welcoming Dr. Dmytro Sherengovsky and Dr. Halyna Protsyk from the Ukrainian Catholic University on December 5. The visiting scholars will be presenting their lectures on Russian hegemonic decline in central Europe and higher education in Ukraine amid war, respectively. 

And if you’re an international student at MacEwan, check out a webinar on post-graduation work permits on December 5 to learn what you need to have to stay and work after completing your studies. If you’re looking to stay long-term, it might also be worth tuning in on December 9 to find what you need to obtain a permanent residency and your National Occupation Classification.

With the holidays and New Year’s resolutions approaching, you might be considering some lifestyle changes. Recovery on Campus hosts a monthly meeting for sober and sober-curious students, and this month you can check it out on December 6.

Also on December 6, MacEwan, SAMU and kihêw waciston have partnered to present Brain Freeze. Keep warm by the fire, play games, get crafty, snag some free food and shop at an Indigenous vendor market as you celebrate the end of another semester.

Take in one last performance this term as MacEwan’s Big Band hits the stage in the Triffo Theatre on December 7. Student tickets are only $5!

If you haven’t been to the Mitchell Art Gallery recently, carve out some time to explore their current exhibition: Benjamin Oswald: The Shape of Absence. The final day to check it out is December 9 – and watch for a new exhibition opening in the Winter term!

Taking a course that you’re just not vibing with? The last day to drop or withdraw for this term is December 8. Final exams start two days later, spanning the week of December 10 to 17.

The university is closed from December 25 through January 1 for the holiday break. But aside from Christmas Day, the Christenson Family Sport and Wellness Centre will be keeping holiday hours, so you can still squeeze in a workout after enjoying a holiday meal.

Enjoy the break, get some well-deserved rest and get ready to start 2024 off with more fun activities in January!
