There are a significant number of new faces in the hallways of MacEwan University. Sixty-four new faculty members have been hired this semester in preparation for future growth across all faculties and schools.

The new additions to the faculty roster will contribute to the university’s goal of Perpetual Motion in the 2030 strategic vision, Teaching Greatness.

“A focus on perpetual motion is integral to MacEwan’s strategic vision: we are committed to growing our enrolment, while ensuring our academic programs and the student experience keep pace, providing the impact and quality MacEwan students expect,” says Provost and Vice-President Dr. Craig Monk. “With the addition of these new faculty members, we can support our goal of increasing our student population by 10,000 more students by the year 2030. Those students will also benefit from a richer, more diverse educational experience as we increase what we are able to deliver in the classroom.”

As part of MacEwan’s dedication to honouring its place in O-day’min, the new faculty members also bring with them unique personal experiences which contribute to an appreciation of the needs of the student body.

“As I walk the halls, I see such beautiful diversity,” says President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Annette Trimbee. “These new appointments will help ensure that the incredible diversity we see among our students is also reflected in our faculty.”

Among the new faculty are two professors in cross-appointment positions with kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre. These faculty members will teach academic courses and thread their Indigenous knowledge through their programs, and will also spend half of their time in kihêw waciston helping to build capacity and contributing to non-academic programming.

MacEwan has also welcomed a new Canada Research Chair applicant in the Department of Design within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications, and three new faculty members to support student services.

The School of Business has also brought on new faculty members in anticipation of the upcoming expansion into their new building in 2027.

These new faculty members will bring their unique and diverse viewpoints and voices into the classroom, allowing students to experience broader perspectives and a wider variety of learning options. In addition to supporting the university’s long-term goals, the addition of the new faculty members will be instrumental in supporting the growth that is currently happening on campus.

“We’re on track to have the largest enrolment numbers in MacEwan’s history in the 2024/25 academic year. Hiring these new faculty members is a proactive step to ensure that we’re ready to provide whatever those students might need to excel in their education,” says Dr. Monk. “We plan on hiring another group of new faculty next year to continue this push toward the sustainable and notable growth of our institution.”
