Spring is here, and we’re wrapping up the winter term with a busy month of events and activities – theatre, music, film, research and much more. So grab your phone and get ready to put some exciting April events into your calendar.
Last call to see Spring Awakening ! The final theatrical production of the season runs through April 2. If music is your thing, check out MacEwan.ca/MusicSeason for dates and tickets for student performances ranging from songwriters on April 1 (no joke!) to big band on April 4 and everything in between.
In between this weekend’s theatre and music shows, head down to Metro Cinema for the Ukrainian Film Festival, hosted in partnership with MacEwan’s Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre, March 31 to April 2. (ICYMI: In mid-March, the university donated space to open a Free Store for Ukrainian Newcomers. Check it out.)
At MacEwan, April is the Month of Scholarship, with opportunities to learn about and celebrate faculty and students’ research and creative work. It’s the perfect time to add Research Recast(ed) from the Office of Research Services and Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications to your podcast playlist. And the big event – Student Research Day – is on April 20. Stop by the Robbins Health Learning Centre Atrium for a jam-packed day filled with more than 200 poster presentations, oral presentations, creative installations/performances and project displays. Everyone is welcome to attend.
But before you get too far into April, make special note of the university’s first-ever Chancellor Speaker Series event on April 4. MacEwan’s chancellor, Dr. Tony Fields, has invited Dr. Jane Philpott, dean of Health Sciences at Queen’s University, to share her unique perspective on building a better health workforce and more effective health systems. Get your tickets today!
April 4 is also the last day of Winter 2023 classes (and the withdrawal deadline). After classes wrap up, students get a week to catch their breath before final exams begin on April 11. If you’re planning to study on campus before exams, make a note that MacEwan’s buildings will be closed for Good Friday (April 7), Easter Sunday (April 9) and Easter Monday (April 10).
If you find yourself with a bit of time In between exams, stop by the Mitchell Art Gallery to check out the Studio Arts Diploma Grad Show from April 14 to 22.
And if these are the last exams of your program, you will also want to apply for Spring Convocation by April 15.
National Volunteer Week (April 16 to 22) is a great time to visit MacEwan.ca/Volunteer and sign up for a range of volunteer opportunities – Spring Convocation, the Mitchell Art Gallery and programs like the MacEwan Ambassadors and the MacEwan Anti-Violence Education Network ( MAVEN) peer education program.
If paid work is on your mind, connect and network with up to 30 local employers interested in hiring MacEwan students at the Summer Career Fair on April 20.
