Continuing a long-standing tradition of excellence in the classroom at MacEwan, 87 Griffins student-athletes earned U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian awards for the 2021/22 season.
It's MacEwan's second-highest U SPORTS total, behind the 97 awards in 2020/21.
"The Academic All-Canadian awards are such a nice bit of recognition for all of the hard work that the athletes put into their studies," said MacEwan Director of Athletics Joel Mrak. "To receive this many is incredible with nearly half of our student-athletes being recognized at this level. Lots to be proud of and to celebrate and very deserving for these recipients. Congratulations to all of our Academic All-Canadians."
Three more Griffins student-athletes joined former women's volleyball player Lauren Holmes in the exclusive five-time U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian club.
Shannon Majeau (women's basketball), Hannah Gibb (women's basketball) and Tyler Jodoin (men's volleyball) are now all tied with Holmes for the most honours in Griffins' history.
Five others now have four career U SPORTS Academic All Canadian awards: Hayley Lalor (basketball), Hannah Supina (soccer), Anna McPhee (soccer), Dana Dunbar (volleyball) and Megan Foxcroft (volleyball).
To qualify, Griffins student-athletes must have maintained a GPA of 3.30 or higher during the 2021/22 season.
