It's showtime! The Drowsy Chaperone, winner of five Tony Awards, runs March 30 to April 3 in front of a live audience. The Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications made the performance even more special by donating ticket sales from the April 1 performance to support the people of Ukraine through the Canada-Ukraine Foundation.
As part of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Week, sessional faculty member Mboya Nicholson in the Department of Music gave a special lecture that examined the innovations of jazz legend Louis Armstrong. Nicholson dove deep into Armstrong's stance on civil rights and the mark he left on other music artists.
We celebrated International Women's Day on March 8. Senior leaders across the university crossed their arms to show their commitment to "break the bias" against women by calling out bias, discrimination and stereotyping.
As part of MacEwan's Pride Week festivities, the City of Edmonton lit up the High Level Bridge in pride colours.
Award-winning playwright and Queer historian Darrin Hagen (right) and LGBTQ2S+ community advocate, former Edmonton city councillor Michael Phair led a neighborhood walking tour as part of the launch of the Edmonton Queer History Project on March 8. Read about the project here.
The university created a designated lab space for conducting research with zebrafish. Above, Dr. Craig Monk, provost and vice-president, Academic, explored the housing room as part of a tour of the new lab.
From the University Archives: To commemorate the college’s 25th anniversary, the graduating class of 1997 adopted an injured bald eagle. Cared for by staff at the Strathcona Raptor Centre, the bird took flight on newly mended wings on April 6 at Hawrelak Park. View the timeline of MacEwan's 50-year history here.
