MacEwan University has announced the appointment of Maureen Lomas to the position of vice-president, Finance and Administration & CFO.
“I am excited to welcome Maureen to our leadership team,” says Dr. Annette Trimbee, president and vice-chancellor. “Maureen stands out as an insightful and strategic leader, bringing with her an extensive network of post-secondary, innovation, and government partners. Her diverse experience as a senior finance and administrative leader will enrich MacEwan’s decision making as we implement Teaching Greatness, Strategic Vision 2030.”
Lomas most recently served as vice-president, Finance with Alberta Innovates, the key provincial entity supporting research, business growth and driving innovation and new ideas through aiding community start-ups. Lomas was a key contributor to the transformation of Alberta Innovates, leading in a time of change for the organization. Along with her experience in finance and administration, Lomas has worked extensively with board-governed organizations and has demonstrated strong governance experience. She has also served as corporate secretary and as the vice-president, Corporate Services for Health Solutions with Alberta Innovates.
“I’m very excited to be joining MacEwan University,” says Lomas. “My own university experiences as a student and alumna of the University of Saskatchewan have provided positive impacts on my life, including many leadership opportunities. I am looking forward to being part of such a vibrant and exceptional undergraduate university in the heart of Edmonton’s downtown.”
The search was led by executive search firm Leaders International, who worked with an internal advisory committee, chaired by President Trimbee. The committee’s membership represented a diverse cross-section of the MacEwan community: the Board of Governors, senior academic and non-academic administration, faculty, non-academic staff and a student.
The committee was impressed with Lomas’ experience as a relationship builder, her knowledge of the post-secondary system and that she was able to demonstrate, in her new role, how she will connect to MacEwan’s new vision.
Lomas received her Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan and has her CPA designation. With 20 years of progressive managerial experience, Lomas has also held executive positions in the private sector in both transportation and manufacturing, developing long-term sustainability plans in fluctuating economic circumstances.
Originally from Saskatoon, Lomas has been a resident of Edmonton since 2000. She has four children in different stages of education, ranging from elementary to high school, and all with diverse dreams for university education. In her free time Lomas enjoys the outdoors and staying active with her family.
Lomas will begin her appointment on February 14, 2022.
