Pride Week 2025
Check out how we celebrated Pride Week in 2025.
We had inspiring speakers, a market featuring local queer makers, casual hangouts, and a GayLa to wrap up the week. The 2025 theme was “the queer agenda,” where we flipped the script—from March 10 to 14, we embraced the here and now, celebrating queer joy and imagining a future full of endless possibilities.
MacEwan’s Pride Week 2025 was brought to you by the YEG Campus Pride Network (MacEwan University, University of Alberta, Concordia University of Edmonton, NAIT, NorQuest College, and The King’s University).

Pride March Poster Making
The Welcome Centre provided space to make a poster for the Pride March. All were welcome to join in the sign-making.
Make Your Pride Shine
The Makerspace was the spot to create a poster, button, 3D print object, fabric capes, or t-shirt design in preparation for Pride Week.
Pride March and Opening Ceremonies
We marched across campus in an act of celebration and solidarity with the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The MacEwan community gathered to represent their work areas, clubs, teams and groups.
Personal Agenda: Art Exhibition
2SLGBTQ+ artists from MacEwan University were invited to consider Pride Week’s theme of ‘the queer agenda’ and how it related to their own experiences. The opening event encouraged guests to explore the pieces, talk to the artists, and learn more. The exhibit was also part of EDI Week and was on display until March 21.
Rainbow Market
Baubles, beads, dice, stickers, art...and more! There was something for everyone at the three-day pop-up Rainbow Market. Over 15 local makers and businesses were featured throughout the week.
Rainbow Room at Sport and Wellness
A confetti-filled rainbow room was the place to spray some silly string, or drum to the beat of music showcasing 2SLGBTQ+ artists. There was a dance party with disco lighting and an opportunity to leave a positive and encouraging message with glow-in-the-dark paint.
SAMU’s Pride Lounge
This was a free drop-in space where students and the MacEwan community could hang out, listen to music, and grab a free (non-alcoholic) margarita.
Queer Research Connections
This third annual event was the opportunity to learn how to pursue answers to the big questions! Student research was highlighted, and participants explored how to engage in research of their own. Connections were built with faculty who drive research at MacEwan.
Queeraoke at Towers
It was a night of queer-themed karaoke with a twist of the theatrical! There were group sing-alongs and prizes in the competition rounds. The shame was shed, the fright was fought, and everyone’s undoubtedly beautiful, or at least entertaining, voice was unleashed.
Art Buffet: Craft-tacular!
All were welcome to join, unwind, and participate in as many crafts as they wanted throughout the day.
Glitter and Glow Zumba
This was a great opportunity to sweat out some stress during Pride Week by grabbing a glow stick and joining Kathleen for a special Pride edition of Zumba workout under disco lights.
Trans Inclusion in Sport: On Gender Policing, Resistance and Joy
The long and problematic history of gender policing in sports through official policy and practice in both elite and recreational sports was discussed, with a focus on the impacts on trans and gender-diverse folks, and also cisgender girls and women. Examples of resiliency, resistance, and joy were shared, along with research insights and personal experiences. Presented by Eva Bošnjak.
Dancefloor as Community and Resistance
Stories from community members were shared, exploring dancefloor culture from an intergenerational lens and exploring questions like: “How has dancing brought communities together?” and “How is the dancefloor a site of resistance to cis-heteronormativity?” and “What more can we do to make these spaces accessible and welcoming to all members of 2SLGBTQ+ communities?”
Glitter and Glow Spin
There was pumping music, glow sticks and disco lights added to the ambiance of a fun workout that celebrated the joy of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
InQueeries Social Dance Class
In preparation for the GayLa on March 14, the InQueeries student group invited people to their dance class. Julissa and Jericho taught Ballroom and Line Dance in a fun and inclusive way.
Pride Poetry and Prose
This was an exploration of poetry and prose, featuring pieces written by MacEwan students and an open mic session. Readers, writers, and listeners were connected by this vehicle of self-expression.
Rewriting the Script
Attendees were invited to explore what can be learned from 2SLGBTQ+ communities and challenging rape culture. There was conversation around sexual scripts and revisiting the normative ways we think about sex. Presented by MAVEN and the Queer Joy! Project.
SAMU’s Dirty Sexy Bingo
MacEwan students and their guests played bingo in order to win NSFW and SFW prizes, hosted by Drag Queen Vanity Fair!
Collaging Your Queer Agenda
Partipants joined the Queer Leaders in Training and InQueeries to collage a page of their own queer agenda.
YEG Campus Pride GayLa
The YEG Campus Pride Network and Queer Joy YEG hosted a transformative evening of community, celebration, and pure joy at The Matrix Hotel! Whether it was to dance, connect, or simply revel in the energy of our vibrant community, the evening was about celebrating our authentic selves and belonging.
