CONSERVATORY of MUSIC

SCHOOL PROGRAMS & CONCERTS

Give students an opportunity to learn from professional musicians and music educators.

School Programs

Each year, many school bands in Alberta or other provinces come to the Conservatory of Music for JumpStart Band Program, band clinics, or choir clinics.

The clinics are designed to inspire students, improve their performance technique, and strengthen overall musicality.

Each clinic is customized to meet the students' level and needs. To discuss your specific needs, email us at conservatory@macewan.ca

JumpStart program is a three-hour band clinic specifically designed for beginning band students who have little or no experience playing a band instrument. This is highly regarded as an integral first step into a school band program. To ensure the best results for all participants, we strive for a clinician-student ratio of 1:12.

In JumpStart clinic, students learn the base skills of musicianship and technique, including:

  • embouchure formation
  • sound production
  • instrument tuning
  • proper posture
  • efficient breathing
  • care of instrument

The clinic includes two instrument-specific sessions and a demonstration concert.

Divided by instrument type, the instrument-specific sessions provide students with a chance to explore their instrument under the guidance of a professional musician.

All students experience a short recital in Muttart Concert Hall where each clinician demonstrates the unique capabilities of their instrument.

To book, email conservatory@macewan.ca or call 780-633-3725.

Band clinics are a great way for band students to learn from professional musicians who can help to improve the band performance and to prepare school bands for upcoming concerts, festivals or competition.

Choral clinics are a great way for choirs to learn from professional choral conductors who can help to improve the choir performance and to prepare for upcoming concerts, festivals or competition.

Band teachers may also consider making a reservation with the Edmonton Symphony Education Concerts.
