Liane Gayler
About
Liane Gayler has taught flute, piccolo, and recorder at the MacEwan (Alberta College) Conservatory of Music since 1991, as well as having taught at Concordia University for over twenty years. Over the years, many of her students have received first class honours as well as silver and gold medals in Royal Conservatory of Music examinations, scholarships and honours at the Conservatory of Music Fall Music Festival and Edmonton Kiwanis Music Festival, and have won auditions for scholarships, masterclasses, honour bands, and both of the Edmonton Youth Orchestras. Liane has provided many performing opportunities to her students, both as soloists and members of flute ensembles, including class, Conservatory recitals and public concerts. Some of her students have gone on to study music at the post secondary level, while others of all ages and levels, continue to simply enjoy making music an important part of their lives.
Liane studied flute, piccolo, piano and voice privately from the age of 12 and later focussed on flute, piccolo and recorder in the music program at the University of Alberta, earning a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance. She gained solo and ensemble performance experience by playing with the Cosmopolitan Music Society, Edmonton Youth Orchestra, University of Alberta Wind Ensemble, Collegium Musicum and Concordia Symphony Orchestra (of which she was a founding member), and now regularly performs with such ensembles as the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Edmonton Opera, Alberta Ballet, Citadel Theatre, Richard Eaton Singers, Opera Nuova, Mercury Opera, and is first flute in Orchestra Borealis (of which she is a founding member and board member). In addition, Liane is involved in numerous and diverse freelance performances with many of Edmonton's finest musicians, and has been an active clinician and adjudicator.
