Kate blechinger

About
Kate Blechinger is an inventive and charismatic Edmonton-based vocalist, composer, and arranger.
Highlights from her career include performing in and around Edmonton with her own quintet, and the close harmony a cappella group The Jivin' Belles; singing back-up for the legendary rock group Heart; and playing shows in the Edmonton International Jazz Festival.
Kate's debut album, Under a Dancing Sky, was released in November 2019 on Bent River Records, and was marked by a sold-out release concert at one of Canada's finest jazz clubs, The Yardbird Suite. Under a Dancing Sky is a partial tribute to Canadian musical icon Joni Mitchell, featuring innovative folk-jazz arrangements of Joni Mitchell's compositions, alongside several of Kate's original songs. Kate's version of "Night in the City" was awarded the Jazz Recording of the Year award at the 2019 Edmonton Music Awards.
Over the past four years, Kate has balanced her active recording and performing career with a diverse music education career, including teaching privately, instructing Kindermusik programs, and leading an early childhood education program at the Francis Winspear Centre for Music.
