About

Violinist Ewald Cheung has performed as soloist with orchestras around Canada, including the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec. In 2015, Ewald and pianist Philip Chiu were featured in a 34-concert tour with Jeunesses Musicales Canada. He is currently a member of the first violin section of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

He received his Bachelor of Music and Artist Diploma from McGill University and obtained his Masters’ degree from The Juilliard School. His teachers include Daniel Phillips, Felicia Moye, André Roy, Jonathan Crow, James Keene and Valeria Kalinak.

As an avid chamber musician, Ewald was a founding member of the Roddick String Quartet and Geistrio. With the Roddick String Quartet, he competed at the London International String Quartet Competition and performed at the Montreal Chamber Music Festival. Ewald, additionally has competed at the Fischoff National Chamber Competition with Geistrio. Currently, Ewald is a member of the Polyphonie String Quartet. He offers private lessons at the MacEwan University Conservatory of music for students age 10+ from adult beginners to an advanced level. He will support students at any part of their musical journey to help them achieve their goals.

Lessons

Ewald offers private violin lessons online and in-person at his private studio located in the Ottewell area. Lessons are available on weekdays and weekends for ages 10 and up from beginner to advanced levels including RCM Levels 1-ARCT.
