PRIVATE LESSONS | DRUMS

conservatory instructor
I teach mostly drumset playing, particularly rock and jazz styles. I usually start with basic hand technique and snare drum reading on a practice pad followed by the addition of drumset work.

About

Dan Skakun has been teaching and playing drums professionally since 1981. He currently resides in Edmonton where he teaches at MacEwan University, The Alberta College Conservatory of Music as well as privately. Dan plays various styles of drums, but is most likely to be found playing jazz; he’s had the honour and pleasure of playing with the likes of PJ Perry, Tommy Banks, Bobby Cairns, Jim Head, Mike Rud, Andre White and many more wonderful musicians. Dan particularly enjoys playing with brushes!

I thought Dan had a perfect blend of technique, rigor, and fun in his private drum lessons. I was challenged to an appropriate point and was never made to feel embarrassed when I couldn’t get something right away. He is a patient, thorough, quirky, and exceptional teacher!
