About

Canadian violinist Christine Yu began her violin studies at the age of six with Eugene Kash. She continued her formative studies with Gerard Kantarjian and Yaakov Geringas. While attending McGill University (Montreal) for her Bachelor’s of Music in Violin Performance, she studied with Richard Roberts, principal concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, was concertmaster of the McGill Symphony Orchestra and worked with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under Charles Dutoit.

A recipient of the Kapnick Scholarship Foundation and the NU School of Music Eckstein Scholarship, she graduated from Northwestern University (Chicago) with a Master’s Degree of Music in Violin Performance. During her time in Chicago she was a principal member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago under Daniel Barenboim and performed at Carnegie Hall under his direction.

In 2005 she was appointed to the violin section of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra under Kees Bakels. At the end of 2013 she left her position in the MPO and has since returned to Canada where she is currently based in Edmonton and performs regularly with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

Lessons

Christine offers private violin lessons online or in-person at the Alberta College Campus. She teaches ages 5 to adult and levels of classival violin from RCM Prep to ARCT.

Christine's studio is full until September 2024 therefore not accepting new students. Submit a request for violin lessons. Based on your information, the Conservatory office will connect you with a teacher.
