UKRAINIAN RESOURCE and DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
Statement On War
The Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre stands united with the resilient people of Ukraine against unprovoked and unjust aggression.
URDC quickly mobilized in the first weeks of the full-scale invasion to support Ukraine. We established the Ukraine Support Team including Dr. Jeffrey Stepnisky (Kule Chair, Faculty of Arts and Science), Dr. Elizabeth Burgess-Pinto (then Chair of International Health, Faculty of Nursing), Dr. Chaldeans Mensah (Faculty of Arts and Science), Lindsey Whitson (MacEwan Library), (the late) Dr. Lucille Mazo (Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications) and Polina Budyanska (from August 2022) to coordinate URDC’s efforts. We put together an information package and organized forums to educate and engage our community. We adapted URDC’s programs, providing ongoing support and emergency funding to Ukrainian students and scholars affected by the war. MacEwan University administration provided support, including tuition and residence support for Ukrainian students. Our community initiatives include free English classes, cultural events and integration support for Ukrainian newcomers.
Our dedication to Ukraine remains unwavering. We continue to engage in scholarly activities—conducting research and supporting courses, offering resources, hosting cultural events and amplifying Ukrainian voices in Canada. We call for global support through advocacy and combating misinformation. Our efforts are focused on defending democracy, promoting peace and ensuring justice for Ukraine.
For informational resources, visit the URDC Library Guide: A guide for understanding Ukraine and current events, created by Dr. Jeff Stepnisky and Lindsey Whitson.
We urge everyone to contribute to relief efforts, participate in cultural exchanges and advocate for the Ukrainian cause globally. Your involvement is crucial in defending democracy and human rights.
URDC is grateful for the ongoing support from the community. We stand with Ukraine.
