DEPARTMENT of PHYSICAL SCIENCES

Research

Martian meteorites and mineralogy, human liver function, international collaboration on water usage, subatomic particles—our department is big on research. Study here and learn from committed teachers who are making their mark in a variety of research areas.

Independent study courses

Is there a specific research topic that you just can't stop thinking about? With independent research courses, you explore an area of interest in greater depth. Together with a faculty supervisor, you plan, execute and report the results of your research project. Both 300- and 400-level independent study courses can be taken twice for credit and are available in chemistry, physics and earth and planetary sciences. Check the academic calendar for details.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR

Our students are able to get into the lab and analyze their own samples in class or for their research projects. Students don't typically have this experience at the undergraduate level.
