DEPARTMENT of HUMANITIES
RESEARCH
Research is at the root of what we do. From exploring the ways ancient Greeks constructed identity through drinking songs to examining the religious and medicinal significance of chocolate—our faculty rigorously engage with emerging arguments and latest developments in their fields.
As a humanities student, you benefit from this research, which informs and enriches your classroom experience. Plus, you have many opportunities to pursue research of your own. At the senior level, you may enrol in individual study courses or apply to university-wide programs like the Undergraduate Student Research Initiative (USRI), which gives you the chance to present you own research at undergraduate conferences across North America.

Digital humanities
Our faculty members are leading the way in digital humanities—spearheading collaborative projects between computer science and humanities students, guiding faculty community learning groups, using blogs and screen-casting tools and importing methods from other disciplines into humanities' classrooms.
Our students are reaping the rewards of these "DH skills." For example, one of our history majors has parlayed his interest in digital mapping into added productivity and innovation in the workplace and as potential post-graduate training in mapping software.
