No matter which major you choose, understanding the financial and budgeting implications of decisions is crucial to any organization’s success. An accounting minor teaches you to do just that.
Why take this minor?
In this minor, you learn how financial information is generated, how it is processed and what it means. You learn principles of accounting and build your technical and analytical expertise, exploring concepts such as taxation, auditing and assurance. In this minor, you take senior-level courses in accounting, giving you a deeper understanding of this critical business practice.
What to expect
In this minor, you take introductory courses in finance and accounting. These courses teach you how to prepare financial statements and budgets and to use financial analysis tools and models. You also learn how to communicate clearly with management and clients, helping them to understand the accounting cycle.
Then you choose senior-level courses that either build directly on the introductory courses, giving you greater depth of understanding in those areas, or you can choose different areas of focus for greater breadth of understanding, including topics such as tax fundamentals, data analytics or working with government and non-profit organizations.
