MACEWAN 50

community builders

People who teach. People who support. People who research. People who inspire. This is who we are.

Throughout the past 50 years, the exceptional contributions of our people have grown MacEwan University – and Edmonton – into what they are today.

MacEwan’s Community Builders Map recognizes more than 50 members of our community who have gone the extra mile in building something bigger than themselves. These individuals are a snapshot representation of the many community builders connected to MacEwan and this is just the beginning!

There are many more community builders out there, and we intend to continue to develop this map out beyond our 50th year, as MacEwan continues to make an impact in the community. In fact, we will be adding at least one new community builder to our map each month! Check out the criteria below:

  • Community builders stand out because of their work identifying opportunities for our community to grow and in creating connections and community between people.
  • They are creative and analytical, strategic and empathetic, listeners and communicators.
  • Must have lived in Edmonton between 1971 and 2021.
  • Must have a direct link to MacEwan University (e.g. alumni, former Allard Chair, staff, etc.)
  • Person has made a significant contribution to the Arts, Social Sciences, Science, Health, or Business.
  • Person does not need to be “famous” (unsung heroes are great).
If you know a community builder that you would like us to know about, please send an email to our archivist, Valla McLean, at mcleanj14@macewan.ca.
