Lara McClelland

The vice-president, University Relations, Lara McClelland, is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the university’s government and community relations, alumni and development, marketing and communications, and website functions.

About Lara McClelland

Lara brings a depth of experience and knowledge as a leader in post-secondary and the public sector. She has a MSc (Sports Medicine) from the University of Calgary, an executive MBA from Athabasca University, her fellowship in health system improvement from the University of Alberta, and is a certified mediator. With over 25 years of progressive leadership experience, Lara has held executive positions at the University of Alberta, the Government of Alberta and NAIT. These positions focused on: strategy, strategic and operational planning, capital and facilities oversight, financial operations, policy and analytics.

Born in Edmonton and growing up in southern Alberta, she returned to Edmonton in 1999. She is passionate about her local community and has sat on Boards ranging from her local community league, Boyle McCauley Health Centre, Edmonton West Primary Care Network, and currently sits on the City of Edmonton’s Office of the Councillors Budget Review Task Force. She is a mother of two teenage daughters, with one enrolled in Nursing at MacEwan University and the other starting at the University of Alberta in fall 2023. In her free time, she loves being with family, travelling, hiking, and almost all outdoor activities.
