MacEwan Foundation Bursary
The MacEwan Foundation Bursaries are designed to support any student who demonstrates financial need. This is a great option if you want to make sure students from all faculties, programs and backgrounds have access to the MacEwan experience. MacEwan receives thousands of applicants for these 24 bursaries every year and that number continues to grow as students manage the pandemic and their studies. Your contribution will increase the number of students supported by supplementing the endowment’s annual revenue.
MacEwan Equity Bursary
The MacEwan Equity Bursary is a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion at MacEwan University. It is designed to provide vital financial support and empower students who identify as Black, First Nations, Metis, Inuit, a person of colour, or racialized person, to access higher education, succeed academically, and become the leaders of tomorrow.
This $1,000 bursary aims to address disparities in educational opportunities by offering financial assistance to students who may face unique financial challenges. Your support for this bursary will foster an inclusive and equitable campus environment at MacEwan.
Elder Jerry Wood Award
The award’s namesake, Elder Jerry Wood, was a beloved spiritual leader, mentor, teacher and friend to students, staff, faculty, alumni and community supporters of MacEwan University. Elder Jerry was a compassionate and gentle man who shared his spiritual wisdom through all his teachings.
The Elder Jerry Wood Award recognizes students with Indigenous ancestry who are connected to the community and have demonstrated a commitment to being cultural helpers. These $500 awards support full-time continuing students in good academic standing. There is a high demand for this award and you have the opportunity to increase the number of culture-building students who receive this critical support.
Hayley Jayne Richman Memorial Award
The Hayley Jayne Richman Memorial Award recognizes a 2SLGBTQ+ student who has made a significant, positive impact on the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The award is also open to students who are allies of the 2SLGBTQ+ community or have 2SLGBTQ+ parents. The award’s namesake was an active member of the campus community and came from a long line of MacEwan alumni.
This $1,000 award is one of the most in demand at MacEwan with hundreds of inspirational applications for one annual award. Your support will help grow this endowment to increase the value and/or number of awards offered to these community builders on campus.
MacEwan Adversity Bursary
This new bursary supports any MacEwan student who has faced adversity to continue their education. When you support the MacEwan Adversity Bursary, you are giving a helping hand to a student who has worked to overcome significant obstacles and is continuing to demonstrate resilience in pursuit of their education. Obstacles may include but are not limited to struggling with mental health; battling an ailment, sickness or disease; overcoming a learning disability; or family commitments/circumstances. In a survey conducted at MacEwan University in 2019/20, students reported the following factors affecting their individual academic performance: Anxiety 43.9%, Depression 31.9%, Sleep difficulties 37.6%, Stress 51.9%, Finances 13.3%. Your contribution will provide additional bursaries for these enduring students.
MacEwan Childcare Award
Approximately 8% of MacEwan students are parents – that’s over 1,500 students who are looking out for the needs of their own children while trying to create a better future for themselves and their families. This $1,000 award improves access and retention for students with dependents. You can relieve the pressure on these students’ time and finances to allow them to continue and thrive in their pursuit of an education. Your support will increase the number of students who receive this award.
School of Business Student Success Bursary
This bursary provides critical financial support to students in the School of Business. It is distributed based on financial need, so dollars go to the students who need it the most. Whether it is recovering from a job loss, paying for books and other supplies, or putting food on the table, this bursary helps offset the cost of tuition and lends a helping hand to our students. Your contribution will increase the number of students supported by supplementing the endowment’s annual revenue.
MacEwan Chancellor Scholarship Series (Domestic)
Domestic students entering a degree program directly from high school are eligible for an entrance scholarship based on the program they have selected and their admission average over 80%. Supporting this scholarship rewards students on their academic achievement and provides financial resources so they can continue their education.
United Way at MacEwan Dare to Dream Bursary
Dare to Dream is an innovative solution to the gap between high school and post-secondary support. Presented by the United Way Committee at MacEwan University, this bursary supports a student entering MacEwan with preference given to students who participated in the United Way’s All In For Youth program. All In For Youth brings together local services to help address the complex needs of inner city children and this bursary helps extend that support through to post secondary. Supporting this fund allows you to increase the value and/or number of bursaries distributed to MacEwan students.
International Crisis Assistance Scholarship
The International Crisis Assistance Scholarship supports international students or visiting international students from MacEwan University’s partner schools experiencing crisis in their home country. This funding supports students in situations where their home country is impacted by armed conflict or war, significant civil unrest, an extreme natural disaster, other crises significantly impacting student access to education.
MacEwan Chancellor Scholarship Series (International)
The Chancellor’s Scholarship Series rewards the best and brightest coming to MacEwan. Supporting this scholarship rewards students for their academic achievement and provides financial resources so they can continue their education. It offsets the costs of tuition so students are able to pay for the essentials of student life such as books, rent and food, thereby reducing stress and allowing them to focus on their studies.
MacEwan University Alumni Awards
MacEwan alumni do amazing things, including supporting the next generation of inquisitive minds. This endowment provides funding for three awards, so when you give to the alumni endowment you get a three in one!
- Future Alumni Award: Recognizes MacEwan University students in their final year of study who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment and valuable contribution to the university community throughout their post-secondary experience.
- Legacy Award: Designed to encourage post-secondary education spanning generations, this award supports the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of MacEwan University alumni.
- Graduate or Professional Studies Award: Supports students pursuing full-time and professional studies after having successfully completed an undergraduate degree program at MacEwan University.
Your donation will grow the endowment and increase the value of these awards for years to come.
