Workplace Harassment & Violence
MacEwan University defines violence as “the threatened, attempted or actual conduct of a person that causes or is likely to cause physical or psychological injury or harm” (Harassment and Violence policy).
Workplace harassment and violence can take many forms, including physical attacks, threatening behaviour, verbal or written threats, domestic violence and sexual violence. MacEwan University supports healthy workplaces by offering tools and resources to prevent and address these issues.
Reporting incidents of violence
It is everyone’s responsibility to create a workplace environment that is free of harassment and violence. All members of the university are encouraged to report incidents of concern.
Report a workplace violence concern
- Report the concern to your immediate supervisor.
- Discuss possible solutions with your supervisor.
- Complete the Employee Health and Safety Concern Report form and submit the form to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE).
- Review and follow-up are led by HSE.
Report an active act of violence
The first priority is your personal safety and those around you. In the event of an act of violence, call 911 immediately and then call Security Services at 780-497-5555. Provide your location and details of the situation and inform others around you if it is safe to do so.
