HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT
Work Alone
You are considered to be working alone if you are alone at a worksite and assistance is not readily available. To ensure your safety, follow key steps, be aware of reporting protocols and use available resources for more support.
Steps to take if you are working alone
- Complete the MacEwan Hazard Assessment and Control Report to identify existing or potential health and safety hazards in the workplace associated with working alone.
- Implement health and safety controls to eliminate or, if elimination is not reasonably practicable, minimize the risk to yourself from identified hazards.
- Ensure an effective way of communicating with your employer, immediate supervisor or another designated person(i.e., Campus Security Services) in case of an emergency situation.
- Ensure that contact with you is possible at regular intervals appropriate to the hazards associated with the work.
- Ensure that you have the training required to perform the job or activity safely on your own.
