MacEwan University focuses on jazz, rock and pop, so you have the freedom to explore your own interests – making us one of the only post-secondary schools in Western Canada to offer such a diverse learning experience. Because the level of skill, training and musical literacy required of musicians in contemporary and commercial music is constantly rising, our two-year diploma program is designed to provide you with the world-class academic and performance training you’ll need to be successful.

MacEwan University Music’s long-established Diploma program continues to produce highly skilled graduates who are well regarded within the music industry.

Now that MacEwan University Music has expanded to include a new Bachelor of Music degree program in September 2011, you have even more options for your post-secondary education in music.

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Centre for the Arts and Communications campus is a creative, supportive community with state-of-the-art equipment, small class sizes and many opportunities to perform. This facility includes fully equipped current lab spaces (piano, drum and percussion, music technology, MIDI, recording studio), sound-resistant practice modules, large performance classrooms, and a 363-seat John L. Haar Theatre.

The instructors are highly trained and experienced professionals who are active in the music industry. They demonstrate their passion for music in the classroom, and on national and international stages.

The course list for the Music diploma program is the same in Year 1 for all Music students in both diploma and degree programs, but changes in Year 2 depending on the major you choose:
