Exceptional Student Athlete Experience
Griffins Athletics is one of the top collegiate athletic and academic institutions in Canada. We continually strive for excellence and consistantly demonstrate this each year by achieving numerous ACAC medals, ACAC all-conference selections, ACAC players and coaches of the year and ACAC and CCAA Academic award recipients.
Athletic Excellence
Griffins Athletics is one of the top post-secondary athletic programs in Canada. Our quest for excellence is demonstrated by the number of awards out athletes bring home every year: ACAC medals and numerous ACAC all-conference selections and Player of the Year Awards. And out coaches are no exception - several have been ACAC Coach of the Year recipients.
Academic Excellence
Balance between excellence in academics and athletics is an important value to Griffins Athletics. Our student athletes make this value a reality;every season, several of them receive ACAC Academic Athlete Awards, and reach CCAA Academic All - Canadian status and CCAA Scholar Athlete recognition.
Story of the Griffin
Griffins are mythological beasts from ancient times. Half lion and half eagle, they represent the dual forces of strength and intelligence.
A Griffin appears in the MacEwan family and institution coat of arms, where it is a symbol of good luck. The athletic teams of MacEwan University proudly bear the name Griffins, to honour the universities namesake and to reflect the traits of courage, swiftness and excellence.
