Reporting to the Vice-President and General Counsel, the Director, Risk and Assurance Services will provide expertise and leadership while developing and overseeing Risk Management, the Office of Emergency Management and Insurance for the university, including required policy, regulations, processes, education, training, monitoring and reporting to ensure the department meets its objectives.

The Director will also provide support and risk advisory services to the Board of Governors and management in all areas of strategic and operational planning, major projects, significant programs, and business operations and opportunities for business improvement. The Director will coordinate with other post-secondary institutions to promote and develop common risk management strategies, standards, policies, methodologies and processes.

The ideal candidate will be inspiring, professional, and flexible to work in a dynamic and changing work environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as influencing and negotiating skills are essential in this role. The ideal candidate will have effective research skills and be able to apply theories in a practical manner to address situations and opportunities.

The successful candidate must have a minimum of a related undergraduate degree or professional certification in finance, audit, risk management or other directly related discipline. A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in management, at least five (5) of which are at a senior level, and a minimum of five (5) years’ directly related experience in the field of risk management and/or audit and/or business process management. Equivalencies will be considered. Experience working in a post-secondary institution is an asset.
