Business leaders can’t and shouldn’t do it all—they need support and assistance from you. While learning office administration skills, graduates of the Office Assistant program can focus their education from day one, specializing in administrative, medical and legal fields. Our graduates establishing themselves in positions such as administrative assistants, legal assistants, medical office assistants and unit clerks.

Program details


  • Pick from one of three majors: Administration, Legal or Medical
  • Mature applicants require a high school English course (min 60%) for admission. See full admission requirements here.
  • One intake per year: Fall/September
  • Finish the program full time in under a year (September to June, plus a four-week field placement)
    • September to April, classes are in person two days a week and online two days a week (four days total)
    • May to June, classes are in-person five days a week as you prepare for your full-time field placement*
    • Part time available, extends program to two years
  • The total for tuition and mandatory fees is ~$11,000**
    • Books, supplies and software are extra at approximately $1,000
    • Fees can be paid per term; there are three terms in the full-time offering

You can complete the Office Assistant certificate program in less than a year. It’s an excellent alternative to a degree or diploma if you want to gain practical, hands-on skills for the workplace in a short time.

Funded program for newcomers launched winter 2024

MacEwan University is pleased to partner with the Government of Alberta to offer a fully funded 12-week course. Designed to prepare students for the Office Assistant program, The Foundational Pathway for Newcomers: English Language Training and Administrative Skill Development course will continue in Fall 2024.
