Interactive assignments, one-on-one conversations and hands-on opportunities at the whiteboard—our approach to teaching mathematics and statistics is flexible and responsive.

If your love of numbers has to do with patterns, shapes and making connections, you may be a mathematician at heart. If you are more interested in the ways that numbers can help you organize, analyze and extract information from big, complex chunks of data, you may be more of a statistician. The mathematical science major combines your interest in mathematics, statistics and computer science.

Research for students

From summer jobs to campus-wide research events, our students have the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-life situations. Alex Mackie did just that when he applied spatial statistics to the City of Edmonton’s homicide data.
